Untitled #6 - Vikky Wilkes

Vikky’s Last Light is a series of photographs investigating the final hour of light on the shores of Lake Ginninderra in Canberra. Photographed between January and March 2009, which included the Australia Day long weekend, the series documents the cultural and social diversity of the people who visit the lake and the ways they interact with it. Night and Day - Jocelyn Rosen

Jocelyn’s Night and Day is an eclectic and deeply personal collection of portraits from her life here and Holga shots from adventurous trips made alone to South East Asia.

“The day images typically feature people who are constant in my life, as opposed to some of the more transient ‘night’ people who flit in and out. They are spontaneous responses to the day, the person, the place. I hope they appear both real and dreamlike – as memories always are.”

The exhibition opens at 6pm on Thursday 25th August at the Huw Davies Gallery, Manuka Arts Centre.

Night and Day will also be showing at the Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne from Friday 2nd December through 15th December. (more…)

Barb Smith

Begun in 1991 and with images taken up until this year, Fyshwick presents a different view of Canberra’s industrial precinct.

“Most people just rush to Fyshwick to shop. But the best time to see this suburb is early in the morning or late afternoon, when there are no people and no cars, and the slanting sunlight transforms apparently mundane buildings into vibrantly glowing castles of commerce.”

Showing alongside Barb’s work is that of Andrée Lawrey. Fyshwick can be seen at the Huw Davies Gallery, Manuka Arts Centre until 31st July. (more…)

Epson Hot Press Natural

9th July 2011 | Papers

Epson Hot Press Natural is a 100% cotton rag paper with a silky smooth surface and natural, warm tone. Its weight is a substantial 330gsm. Its paper white measures 97.3, 0.0, 3.5 (see CIE L*a*b* for a description of these values). It’s a worthy successor to Epson UltraSmooth Fine Art with the newer paper incorporating a superior coating for larger colour gamut and greater Dmax (measured over 1.7 which places it near the top for a rag paper). Images printed on Hot Press Natural are pin sharp and the surface has an attractive velvety appearance. The paper really rewards subjects such as portraits. (more…)
