Alex’s first solo photographic exhibition Forever and a Day opens at the Canberra Contemporary Art Space in Manuka at 6pm on Thursday 10th November and continues to 20th November.
“I have always been interested in portraying through my photographs some sort of ambiguous beauty in the landscape. Be it urban or rural, people or place, I look to find beautiful compositions comprised of ugly things.
“There are reoccurring visual motifs throughout these works; vast expanses of wall, figures or trees rendered tiny against them, streets and people; but the emphasis for me is on mood and emotion, of strangeness, beauty and unsightliness, of calm and of presence, and how those same feelings somehow carry from one image to the next. I create my own world in this: a mysterious landscape that is to me both foreign and familiar. Of my own making yet perhaps outside of my control.”
The paper selected by Alex for the unframed prints was Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique.
