My Life in the Bush of Ghosts is a mixed media exhibition of Andrew’s Monoprints, Digital Pinhole Photography and Sculpture.
“Life as a child in the Brisbane suburbs of the 1970’s and 80’s always went hand in hand with the local bush, those neighbouring areas or pockets yet to be developed. For us it was the bush across the road, running down to cliffy outcrops that met with the Brisbane River approximately 18 miles up stream from Moreton Bay. Those places were riddled with tracks. Most of us kids went there to hang out, explore or role play. Parts of the bush we often frequented could be places adults seldom set foot.
“Little if nothing real were we taught about Indigenous Australia. Leap forward to adulthood and I found myself living in Alice Springs. As an artist I found myself friends with local Arrernte custodians. They so kindly teach me of an Australian history and present I could not have imagined in my wildest of dreams.”
The show opens at the Canberra Contemporary Art Space in Manuka at 6pm Thursday 26th August and runs to 5th September. Gallery hours are 10am-5pm Wednesday to Sunday.
The paper selected for the digital prints in the exhibition was Canson Infinity BFK Rives.
